Today is Rainbow Day. Rainbow is “l’arc en ciel” in French.
フランス語を勉強してから、意外と日本にもフランス語が多く使われているのに気がつきます。
Since I started studying French, I’ve noticed that French words are surprisingly used a lot in Japan.
特にお店の名などに使われていますね。
Especially for shop names.
思いつくのは、かばん屋のMon sacや住宅のCet’s bonなどもありますし
Some examples that come to mind are “Mon sac” for a bag shop and “Cet’s bon” for a housing company.
ケーキ屋さんやパン屋にも多く使われていますね。
They are also frequently used for cake shops and bakeries.
話は違いますが、私が以前に住んでいたタイでは「おいしい」というジュースメーカーがとても有名でした。
On a different note, when I used to live in Thailand, there was a very famous beverage company called “oishi,” which means “delicious” in Japanese.
きっと、日本のメーカーではないと思います。そこから販売されているジュースに「やくざ」という名前のジュースかあり、チンピラのようなイラストがジュースに書かれていました。凄いセンスだと思いました。
I’m sure it’s not a Japanese company. They had a juice called “chakuza” with an illustration of a gangster-like character on the can. I thought it was quite unique.
そして、私の苗字は大西なのですが、タイ人に挨拶する時には、「はじめまして大西です。おいしいではないです。」というとクスっとしてくれます。そんな思い出話。
Also, my last name is Onishi, and when I greet Thai people, I often say, “Nice to meet you, I’m Onishi, not Oishi,” and they chuckle. It’s just a little anecdote.
