The Big Electric Store in Thailand.

This blog post is about when I was living in Thailand and wanted to buy some electrical appliances, so I searched for electric stores in Bangkok online.

Until then, I had never really gone in that direction, but I found a large electric store not too far from my house. It was quite big, and if I tried hard, I could even walk there.

Since it was in the opposite direction of the station, I had never been to that area before and knew nothing about it. When I looked up the route online, I found some blogs written by Japanese people who had introduced several options. They mentioned that it was possible to take a vehicle called “sonteo” to reach the electronics district.

These blogs also described the thrill of riding the sonteo, which was a thrilling experience for ordinary Japanese tourists. Strangely enough, I used the sonteo almost every day, but I didn’t realize it could be considered thrilling by others.

Sonteo is not something you find in Japan, and I have never seen Japanese people riding it. Even though I use it for my daily commute, I have never seen anyone else wearing a suit and carrying a business bag on the sonteo. My boss, who is Japanese, had never heard of the sonteo.

In the introduction of the electronics district, the blogs mentioned that it would take around 30 minutes by sonteo or 20 minutes by taxi to get there. It was a place that people rarely visited. Although it was a bit far from my house, I could walk there if I made an effort.

Indeed, it is quite far from the office. In the morning and evening, there is a large van called “lotto” that comes out from the apartment. However, I am the only Japanese person on the lotto, and everyone else is Thai. It’s rare for me to encounter Japanese people within my daily activities. This is not limited to Thailand, but wherever I go abroad, I tend to be in places used exclusively by locals.

By the way, the electronics district is located inside a large department store. While there are many electronics sections in the department store, it also houses numerous restaurants and clothing stores. It is a huge department store.

When I had free time and wanted to watch a movie, I asked the staff if there were any movies in English. They informed me that all the movies were in Thai, with Thai subtitles. I found it strange because I thought there would be English subtitles, but even the trailers and promotional movies were in Thai with Thai subtitles. I couldn’t understand why.

Video letter addressed to my son. It was recorded when I was at my heaviest, and my face looked bloated and embarrassing. (The content is the same as what I wrote above.)
