海外だけに限らずどこかへ行けば必ずトラブルに巻き込まれる私ですが、今日はオーストラリアでのバスの事故について話します。私は約２年半オーストラリアに滞在しました。最初の半年間は元嫁と一緒にホテルの一室に住んでいたのですが（家賃はそこまで高くはないです）、そこは学校からはとても遠かったんです。ちなみに元嫁は妊娠したので、半年してから日本へ帰国しました。
I always seem to get involved in troubles whenever I go somewhere, both overseas and domestically. Today, I’ll talk about a bus accident that happened in Australia. I stayed in Australia for about two and a half years. For the first six months, I lived in a hotel room with my ex-wife (the rent wasn’t too high), but it was quite far from the school. By the way, my ex-wife became pregnant, so she returned to Japan after six months.
彼女が帰国してから、契約上の関係で私は２ヶ月間、そこに暮らし続けたのですが、学校までが遠くて約一時間掛けてバスで通っていました。ちなみに、私は英語力がオーストラリアに着いた時には大学院に入学するレベルに達していなかったので、最初の１５週間は元嫁と同じ語学学校に通っていました。（クラスは大学院進学コースと一般コースで違いましたが）。その後、大学院へ行ったのですが、語学学校も大学院もバスなら５分くらいの距離です。
After she went back to Japan, I continued living there for another two months due to contractual obligations. During that time, I had to take the bus to school, which took about an hour. When I arrived in Australia, my English proficiency wasn’t at the level required for graduate school, so for the first 15 weeks, I attended the same language school as my ex-wife (although we were in different courses, one for graduate school preparation and the other for general studies). After that, I went to graduate school, which was also about a 5-minute bus ride from the language school.
そんな為に、学校の近くに引越しをするまでの最初の８ヶ月くらいはバスに乗る事が頻繁にあったのですが、その間だけでも３度も事故に遭遇しています。最初の事故はバスが見るからに新車だという車におかまを掘りました。その後に、現場にパトカーが来まして、乗客はバスを乗り換える事になりました。
Because of this, for the first eight months until I moved closer to the school, I frequently took the bus. During that time, I experienced three accidents. The first accident happened when the bus rear-ended a clearly brand new car. Then, a police car arrived at the scene, and the passengers had to change buses.
そして、二回目はこれは事故とは言えないかもしれませんが、私が座っていた椅子の少し後ろに誰かが窓めがけて石を投げ込みました。本当に危険でした。完全に窓ガラスが割れてしまい、その後にバスの運転手が危険なために完全にそこの窓ガラスを割り、（バスの窓は細かく粉砕されるガラスを使っているんですね）私たちは緊急できた新しいバスに乗り換えました。
The second incident might not be classified as an accident, but someone threw a stone towards the bus, aiming at the window just behind me. It was extremely dangerous. The window shattered completely, and the bus driver had to break the entire window (the bus windows are made of glass that shatters into small pieces). We were then transferred to a new bus as an emergency measure.
三回目は一番悲惨でした。これは前に車が止まっていたのを運転手が気がつかずに急ブレーキを掛けました。その後、何人かの乗客たちが前に投げ飛ばされたのですが、その中の一人のお婆ちゃんが完全に前に投げ出されて床にうずくまった形で倒れており、全く動きません。
The third incident was the most tragic. The bus driver didn’t notice that a car in front had stopped, and he suddenly hit the brakes. As a result, several passengers were thrown forward. One elderly woman was thrown completely forward, collapsing on the floor and not moving at all.
紫外線の強いオーストラリアの元で、彼女はサングラスを掛けていたようなのですが、どうもそのサングラスが割れてしまったようで、その後に彼女の顔付近からかなりの血が流れてきました。ただ、やはり彼女は全く動けません。その後、救急隊が来たのですが、色々と酸素マスクをしたりという事をしていても全く動けない状態でした。
Under the intense Australian sunlight, she was wearing sunglasses. However, it seemed that her sunglasses had shattered, as a considerable amount of blood started flowing from her face. Unfortunately, she still couldn’t move. The ambulance arrived, but even with various attempts using an oxygen mask, she remained in a state of immobility.
その後、私を含めて殆どの乗客はバスを乗り換えましたので、彼女がどうなったのか分かりませんが、何もなく、後遺症もなく回復していればいいと願うばかりです。今日はオーストラリアでのバスの事故についてでした。正直、オーストラリアのバス運転手は本当に酷いとしか言いようがないです。最後に私が最初の頃に元嫁と通っていた語学学校やビーチの動画を紹介したいと思います。
After that, most of the passengers, including myself, changed buses, so I don’t know what happened to her. I can only hope that she recovered without any complications or lasting effects. That’s the story of the bus accident in Australia today. Honestly, I can only say that Australian bus drivers are really terrible. Lastly, I’d like to share videos of the language school and the beach that my ex-wife and I used to visit when we first arrived.
