私は以前マッサージ師として働いたことがある
I once worked as a massage therapist,
私が研修を受けていたときに
and during my training period, I had an incident.
私の練習のために施術を受けてくれた人が太っていた
The person who volunteered for me to practice on was on the heavier side.
研修の先生が「次に首をマッサージして」と言ってきたので
When it came time for me to massage their neck,
私が「首がありません」と言ってみた
I made a light-hearted remark, “There’s no neck to massage!”
そういうことを言うんじゃないと怒られた
This comment didn’t go over well, as I was promptly scolded for saying such a thing.
また、体が大きな先輩に施術を受けてもらったときに
Another awkward moment occurred when I was massaging a larger-bodied colleague.
脇腹のお肉をつまんで「これは凝りですか？」
I inadvertently pinched their side and asked, “Is this part knotted?”
と聞いたことがある。
The atmosphere immediately turned icy,
周りが凍っていたようだった。
and I could sense the discomfort around me.
