私の大学時代の同級生に香川県、岡山県、青森県出身の人間がいた。
During my college years, I had classmates from Kagawa Prefecture, Okayama Prefecture, and Aomori Prefecture.
香川県と青森県はあまり方言がなく、岡山県の人間は方言が強かった。
There weren’t many dialects in Kagawa and Aomori Prefecture, but the person from Okayama Prefecture spoke with a strong dialect.
それで私は四国には方言がないんだと勝手に思っていたのだが
So, I used to think that there were no dialects in Shikoku,
2021年に四国に行って普通に方言があって驚いた。
but when I visited Shikoku in 2021, I was surprised to find out there actually were.
ちなみに、青森の同級生と話をした時に

「今はあまり方言はない」と言っていた。
he said, “There aren’t many dialects now.”
そんな話をしてから3日後くらいに、彼の地元で大きな地震が起こった。
About three days after that conversation, a big earthquake happened in his hometown.
まさに彼の地元の人たちがニュースのインタビューに出て
eople from his hometown were interviewed on the news,
ビックリするくらいに、なまっていた。
Pand their accents were so strong that it surprised me.
翌日、みんなに突っ込まれていた。
The next day, everyone teased him about it.
