コロナが始まる前だが、宮崎県に旅行に行った
Before the onset of the coronavirus, I traveled to Miyazaki Prefecture.
宮崎は最初に神様が降り立った地なので有名な神社が多くある
Miyazaki is famous for having many shrines as it is said to be the place where the gods first descended.
そして、私は宮崎に古き良き日本を感じたいと思って訪ねた
I wanted to experience the old-fashioned charm of Japan in Miyazaki.
しかし、本当に多くの外国人がいてなんとなく景観が台無しに思えた
However, there were so many foreign tourists that the scenery somehow felt ruined.
青島神社に行くには長い橋を渡らなければならない
To reach Aoshima Shrine, you have to cross a long bridge.
その橋の入り口のところで大きな声で話をしている二人の外国人がいた
At the entrance of that bridge, there were two foreigners speaking loudly.
何を言っているか全く分からなかったのだが
I couldn’t understand what they were saying at all,
ずいぶんと大きな声で話しているので
but they were speaking so loudly
日本の伝統的な雰囲気が台無しだなと思った
that it felt like they were disrupting the traditional atmosphere of Japan.
どこの言葉か聞こうと二人に近づいて耳をすましたら
I approached them to try and identify their language,
地元の人が方言で話しているだけだった
and it turned out they were just speaking in the local dialect.
年配の人の宮崎弁は難しい
The Miyazaki dialect spoken by older locals can be quite difficult to understand.
