今日はかき氷の日だそうです。
Today, it is a shaved ice day.
数年前の今頃は私は台湾で暮らしていました。台湾は日本の本州から見ると沖縄の少し先にありますので、物凄く暑いです。
A few years ago around this time, I was living in Taiwan. Taiwan is located just a bit south of mainland Japan, closer to Okinawa, and it gets extremely hot there.
そして、日本よりも明らかに湿気っぽいです。ですので、夏場に少し歩くと物凄く汗をかきます。この時期はたいていの人はクーラーのある室内に待機している感じです。
Moreover, it’s noticeably more humid than Japan. So, even a short walk during the summer makes you sweat profusely. During this season, most people tend to stay indoors with air conditioning.
ちなみに、沖縄の人も夏場に表に出る事もないし、移動は近場でも車だって言っていました。私がタイに住んでいた時もどこに行っても物凄くクーラーがついていて寒いくらいだったな。暑い場所に住んでいる人の方が暑さに弱い気がする。
By the way, people in Okinawa also avoid going outside during the summer, and they even use cars for short distances. When I lived in Thailand, everywhere I went had strong air conditioning, and it was so cold. I feel like people who live in hot places are more sensitive to heat.
台湾は日本よりも暑いですのでタピオカなど飲料の文化が進んでいますし、カキ氷も有名です。そして、夏場のマンゴーは安いし超うまくて、マンゴーカキ氷も最高に美味しいです。
Taiwan, being hotter than Japan, has a developed beverage culture with tapioca drinks, and shaved ice is also famous there. In addition, during the summer, mangoes are cheap and incredibly delicious, making mango shaved ice exceptionally tasty.
私が台湾のカキ氷屋に入った時に、少し奮発して具材の全部乗せみたいなカキ氷を頼みました。それが下の写真です。
When I entered a shaved ice shop in Taiwan, I splurged a bit and ordered a shaved ice with all the toppings. That’s the photo below.
どうみても何も具材が乗っていない単なる氷にシロップのカキ氷が出てきました。私が店員に「私が頼んだのはこれじゃあないんだけど」って言ってみたのですが、良いから食べ進めてみてと言われました。食べた進めた結果が下です。
To my surprise, what came out was just plain ice with syrup, without any toppings. I told the staff, “This isn’t what I ordered,” but she told me to go ahead and try it. So, I proceeded to eat it, and the result is shown below.
中から色々な具材が出てきました。何これ？ただの日の丸弁当に見せかけて、下に具材を隠しておいたよ～みたいな。ツンデレの嫁さんの弁当みたいな感じ？って、分かりづらいか。まあまあ、美味しかった！
Various toppings came out from the center. What is this? It seemed like a simple lunchbox with hidden toppings underneath, like a tsundere wife’s lunchbox, if you get what I mean. Well, it was quite delicious in the end!
