今日は麻雀の日だそうです。

今回のブログは一切面白くありません。特に麻雀を知らない方は読まない方が良いと思います。
Actually, today’s blog post is not interesting at all, especially for those who are unfamiliar with Mahjong. It’s better not to read it.
私は賭け事は殆どしません。過去10年間で競馬もパチンコも競輪も麻雀も一度もしていません。ただ、海外にいた時にカジノには何度か行きました。経験をしたかっただけで、もう熱くなる事は絶対にありません。
I don’t engage in gambling much. In the past ten years, I haven’t played horse racing, pachinko, bicycle racing, or Mahjong at all. However, when I was abroad, I visited casinos a few times. I did it just for the experience, and I don’t get excited about it anymore.
ただ、何度か書いていますが、私が中学生と高校生の前半は賭け事をしていました。中学時代から雀荘、パチンコ屋、競馬場に通っている子でした。特にその中でも麻雀は好きでした。
However, as I mentioned before, during my junior high school and early high school years, I used to gamble a lot. I frequented Mahjong parlors, pachinko shops, and horse racing tracks. Among them, I particularly enjoyed playing Mahjong.
中学時代は、ほぼ毎週末は全自動の雀卓でタバコを吸いまくって徹マンをしていました。今思うと本当に駄目な子でしたね。まあ、それがあったから今は一切やらなくなっいるから良いのかな。
During my junior high school years, almost every weekend, I would stay up all night, smoke cigarettes, and play Mahjong on fully automated Mahjong tables. Looking back, I realize I was a really irresponsible kid. Well, maybe it’s a good thing that I don’t do any of those things anymore.
最近、麻雀放浪記2020という映画がやっていましたね。実は、私は生まれて今までに殆ど小説は読んだ事がありません。ちなみに、ビジネス書は毎年100冊以上は確実に読みます。過去6年で1,000冊以上はビジネス書を読んでいます。
Recently, there was a movie called “Mahjong Horoki 2020.” Actually, I’ve hardly read any novels in my life. By the way, I definitely read over 100 business books every year. In the past six years alone, I’ve read more than 1,000 business books.
ただ、数少ない小説の中で、私が人生で一番最初に読んだ小説は麻雀放浪記でした。これも私が中学生の時に読んだ本です。
However, among the few novels I’ve read, the very first one I read in my life was “Mahjong Horoki.” I read it when I was in junior high school.
麻雀放浪記の主役の阿佐田哲也さんと裏の代打ちで20年間負けなしの桜井章一さんが人気があったのを覚えています。阿佐田さんは亡くなっていましたが、カリスマがあったのでしょうね。ちなみに、私は小島武夫さんもお気に入りで小島さんや東大出の井出洋介さんなどの麻雀の本もよく読んでいました。
I remember that Tetsuya Asada, the protagonist of “Mahjong Horoki,” and Shoichi Sakurai, who hadn’t lost in 20 years as an underground substitute player, were popular. Asada has passed away, but he must have had a charismatic presence. By the way, I also liked Takeo Kojima and often read books about Mahjong written by him and Yosuke Ide, who graduated from Tokyo University.
その当時は、桜井さんも表舞台に顔を出し始めた頃で、桜井さんの本もいくつか読んだ事があります。今、スピリチュアルな事に嵌って、波動の高さとか、運の良い人と悪い人などの話を耳にする事がありますが、桜井さんの言われている事にも少し通じる部分があるようにも思えます。
At that time, Shoichi Sakurai was also starting to gain popularity in the spotlight, and I read some of his books as well. Nowadays, I’ve become interested in spirituality, concepts like vibration frequency and the difference between lucky and unlucky people. It seems to have some similarities to what Sakurai talks about.
麻雀は運の流れが大きく左右しますので、桜井さんも運の流れを鎖さないようにテンポを大切に綺麗に打つ事を心がけていたようによく言われています。世の中には運の引き寄せってあるんだなって最初に知った瞬間かもしれません。
Since Mahjong is heavily influenced by luck, Sakurai often emphasizes the importance of maintaining a good tempo and playing beautifully without disrupting the flow of luck. That might have been the moment when I first realized that there is such a thing as attracting luck.
ちなみに、桜井さんの勝負どころの見極め方とか運の手繰り寄せ方などは多くの著名人も参考にされているようですよ。以前、イチローが桜井さんの本を読んでいるというのも聞いた事があります。
By the way, it seems that many notable figures refer to Sakurai’s insights on reading opponents’ critical moves and attracting luck. I’ve even heard that Ichiro, the baseball player, has read Sakurai’s books.
ずっと、そのような感覚を忘れていましたが、私も少し運の流れを意識した生き方をしても良いのかなと最近は改めて思ってきています。努力や能力では超えられない壁って、きっと世の中にはあるように思います。
I had forgotten about such sensations for a long time, but recently, I’ve been reconsidering whether it’s good for me to live with some awareness of the flow of luck. I believe that there are barriers that cannot be overcome solely through effort and ability in this world.
